How to activate Airtel GPRS for Sony Ericsson Mobile Handset
Currently I am enjoying my vacation at my native place in Kannur, Kerala which is 330km away from Bangalore (where I work). Internet is bread & butter for any IT professional, hence I thought of enabling GPRS before leaving Bangalore city. Now I have the internet access in my laptop which is shared via bluetooth from my Sony Ericsson handset. I had faced some issues while configuring the internet & GPRS, hence I thought of sharing my experience (through my airtel GPRS connection) 
- Call 121 from your post paid Airtel phone and select the option for GPRS and talk to the customer service executive.
- You have to send an SMS to activate the GPRS. Customer service team will assist you. I have selected 140 Rs (weekly unlimted) plan.
- Airtel will send the settings required for your handset and you have to accept the settings. I couldnt receive the settings from Airtel, still I am not sure the issue. My Sony Ericson handset was not able to receive the settings sent by Airtel.
- If you are able to receive the settings, you are lucky and ready to go. Otherwise do the following configuration in your sony ericson mobile handset.
- Goto Menu ->Serttings->Connectivity->Internet Settings->Internet Profiles->New Profile
- Name: MobileOffice, Connect Using->New Account-> GPRS, APN: airtelgprs.com, UserName: <blank>, Password:<blank>
- Goto Menu ->Internet Service -> Search ->Press Ok for User Name and Password. If you are getting google search page, you are connection is working fine and ready to use from your laptop.
- For connection sharing you can use USB, Bluetooth or infrared. I am using bluetooth now. To share the connection using bluetooth, you have t0 enable the bluetooth.
- Goto Menu->Settings->Connectivity->Bluetooth->Turn On
- Now swith on you laptop and enable the bluetooth. You can search for the nearby bluetooth devices (Control Panel -> Bluetooth configuration). You will find your mobile phone under bluetooth list.
- Now add the network connection (Control Panel -> Network connection -> Create a new connection -> Connect to internet -> Setup Manually -> Connect using dial-up ->ISP Name (Airtel) -> Phone number (*99***1# Or *99***2#) -> User Name and Password <Blank>
- Enjoy your browsing!! Similar settings can be configured other mobiles like Nokia, LG , Motorola, Samsung etc.

APN: airtelgprs.com should work. It is working with me. Better contact their support center, and they will send the settings to your mobile.

I am from Kannur. I get airtel gprs working fine on my new spice d88 dual sim phone (GSM CDMA) in dual mode.
Here is the settings for those required.

For PC acces install the software from spicemobile.in and configure the port from settings>network setup>usb config>modemfun>gsm network
dialling number= *99#
PC access working fine like any dial up connection. WS_FTP pro also working on the carrier. But alas the speed is considerably meager. Download speed approximately 5 minutes for 1 MB.

Important alert for all
We see discussions elsewhere about free gprs from airtel. The said trick spartan’s and others works fine. I have tested all the ways using different APNs and different gateways. Everything fine. But beware. airtel is charging for it. From prepaid accounts money drains very fast. Post paid people get bills having usage charges towards live, mms, nop etc. Beware no GPRS is free from Airtel at all. It does’nt mean how you are connected. Better choice is to go the legal way ie. subscribe for MO spending Rs 250 every month. Querries may be sent to balakrishnan@journalist.com

If GPRS is working on your mobile, you have to configure your mobile as modem from your laptop. You can try Bluethooth, Infrared, any the wired connection itself. Goto to network connection and add new connection. I hope the wizard will direct you

Airtel’s GPRS for a week costs just 75 if you sms GPRS7 to 56789 and 20 for a day(24 hrs from the time you log in)if you sms GPRS to 56789 and me and my friends have been using this for a long time.. we were not charged extra towards GPRS or any unknown charges like what Mr. Balakrishnan has told..

I was warning about using Airtel GPRS in illegal ways. In your case you pay for them straight and where is the scope for any hidden charges. I was talking about using Airtel GPRS without giving a penny to Airtel company. I hope now the matter is clear. Beware they started charging for SPARTAN’S towards airtime usage charges. They have changed their system programming accordingly. Proxy server remains same, but the year 2005 has changed to 2007

I can send message from cdma(tata) but when i send from Gsm(Hutch) then it is directly(without tacking any time) message sending failed displayed.
Please please tell what i have to do.
